SASH  WINDOW

RESTORATION

The question people always ask is do my sash windows have to be in fairly good condition to be restored,

Well the answer is no, as some of the following pictures show at Martin Bergin Joinery because of our high degree of skill and experience we can restore even the most neglected sash window.

We are also happy to just renew your sash cords, if that’s all you need.

When our carpenters restore sash windows we normally follow this set procedure:

Firstly after removing sashes and setting to one side if they are to be reused, we then cut out all defective timber including sill and lower sections if bad.

We then scrape or burn off all old built up paint that interferes with the smooth operation of the windows.

Then we install new hardwood sill and lower lining sections if required.

All previously run up in our workshop and fully treated.

Then we either fit new sashes if required or we overhaul existing sashes, including re’wedging on joints and hanging on new rot proof sash cords.

We can also re’glaze any defective glass at this stage & add the correct weights required to balance sashes correctly.

We then fit new parting and staff beads complete with pile draught proofing system.

Next we fit new chrome or brass window furniture including, catch, sash lifts and D handles. We can also fit window security locks.

We also offer a full decorating

Service if required
